School Age

The YMCA of Greater Springfield is committed to the provision of quality affordable day care. The YMCA’s school age childcare program (School’s Out Program) provides a safe constructive environment, to foster healthy growth and development in school age youngsters. Programming is not merely custodial or recreational but provides a curriculum of daily activities and relationships that offer opportunities for the developmental growth of each child in four (4) key areas:

1. Physical Development
2. Social Development
3. Emotional Development
4. Intellectual Development

The YMCA is proud to announce that we are the largest providers of school age childcare nationwide. Thousands of schools across the country are working in cooperation with the YMCA to provide School Based Child Care.

The YMCA hosts licensed before and after school programs in Chicopee, Monson, Palmer, Springfield & Wilbraham.

It is our goal to enhance the school’s daily curriculum through after school enrichment activities. Our programs offer tutorials, and we work with the school computer coordinators to offer afternoon computer workshop sessions. The YMCA has invested in a national curriculum, Kidz Lit & Kidz Math to improve literacy & math skills through after school tutoring.

The YMCA is a not-for profit community based organization. No child or family is turned away due to inability to pay. Through generous donations from the United way and the YMCA annual fundraisers the Y is able to offer scholarships to eligible families. The YMCA also has a contract with the Commonwealth for 130 sliding fee childcare slots and has a contract with New England Farm Workers to accept payment vouchers.

Our Mission To serve human needs in greater Springfield by providing quality programs that promote lifelong personal growth and the balanced development of spirit, mind, and body for all.
