Pike I (Beginner I)
This class is designed for the preschooler who is a newcomer to the program and to the water. This level helps children develop safe pool behavior, adjust to the water, and develop independent movement in the water. It is designed for new swimmers, teaching basic paddle stroke and kicking skills, pool safety, and comfort with holding the face in the water while blowing bubbles and swimming.

Pike II (Beginner II)
This class is designed for the preschooler who has been in Pike two times or more, or is comfortable in water but not yet swimming independently. Swimmers are now comfortable getting their face wet, floating on their back with assistance, and working with lesson equipment. Swimmers will continue working on basic skills of floating, kicking and paddling in front, back and side body positions.

Eel (Advanced Beginner)
This advanced beginner level reinforces Pike skills as well as introducing basic swim techniques. Swimmers will continue to work on kicking, floating skills, and perform the progressive paddle stroke. Safety is stressed in this level. Children should be comfortable swimming independently with a flotation device as well as submerging underwater.

Ray/Starfish (Intermediate)
At this level children review previous skills, improve stroke skills, learn more personal, safety, and rescue skills, build endurance, they’ll also learn underwater swimming skills and learn to tread water. Children can swim across the pool on their front and back without assistance by the end of this level. Class held in lap pool.

Make-up Policy
We cannot offer makeups, credits, or refunds for any missed classes during the session. Classes that are cancelled for any reason by the YMCA will be re-scheduled by the Aquatics Department. *Please note any class with fewer than three participants is subject to cancellation.
