Group Exercise Schedule

Due to sustained financial losses at the Agawam YMCA, we have come to the unfortunate conclusion to close the facility. Our storefront YMCA in Agawam will continue to serve members through the end of May 2016. Agawam YMCA members who remain with the YMCA through that time will be awarded the benefit of receiving three months of complimentary membership to YMCA locations in Springfield, Wilbraham or Westfield.

The Agawam retail center location has been unable to achieve the membership levels required to sustain itself and is not projected to achieve sustainability in the foreseeable future. With these substantial losses, we are forced to make the tough but appropriate decision to close the facility. Our staff in Agawam and in Springfield have worked hard on growing membership but we were unable to reach the break-even membership level of 750, over the current 550 members. We wish the outcome would have been different and we appreciate the support we received from the community in planning and opening the center and during our time serving the community at the Agawam facility.

The YMCA has also been proud to provide community-based programming in Agawam in the areas of swimming lessons and youth basketball to meet local needs. We encourage members of the Agawam YMCA to continue their Y experience by transferring to existing facilities in Springfield, Westfield or Wilbraham.

We have come to recognize that community needs are being met by other fitness centers in the area and those that continue to come online in the community. We thank you for the support we received from you, our members, and from so many who worked hard to establish the Y in Agawam.

Sincerely,
Jeffrey Poindexter, Board Chair
Scott Berg, President and CEO

Strengthening CommUNITY

Since 1852, the YMCA of Greater Springfield has been a way of life for thousands of youth, teens, families and seniors throughout our region. As one association, we are working together to meet the growing needs of the 14 cities and towns that we serve. Help us provide opportunities for Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility to more members of our community by making a donation to our Strengthening CommUNITY Scholarship Campaign.
