COVID-19 Response update: June 12

Dear YMCA Child Care Parents,

It has been a difficult springtime. As summer approaches, our focus turns to reopening summer camps and child care programs. We are moving forward with plans to open in a few weeks. Enhanced cleaning procedures will be put In place to ensure that CDC-approved disinfecting Is happening on a daily basis, In addition to the cleaning that will happen throughout the day. There are also state-mandated policies that will alter the way that the program functions.

Early Learning Centers

Many of you may have seen an announcement that child care could resume In Phase 2 of the Massachusetts Reopening Plan. Some of you are also aware that Phase 2 began on June 8th. However, It was never a part of the plan to have centers reopen at the beginning of Phase 2. There are forms that need to be submitted. Safety plans have to be created and approved. Calls will be made this week to gather your Intentions on returning to our Early Learning Centers. We plan on have a Grand Re-Opening on July 2nd. If we have not heard back from you about whether or not you plan to reclaim your spot in the classroom by June 19th, we will move forward assuming that you are not returning. If you plan to resume but plan to do so a bit later, please let us know that as well.

As we look to return to service, there will be significant changes to the operation to meet the new state COVID guidelines. The most significant:

  • Preschool classrooms capacity reduced from 20 to 10.
  • Parents will not be allowed in the classrooms.
  • Upgraded disinfecting procedures.

Summer Camps

Our summer camps are also in the same position. We are awaiting the forms that would allow us to submit our camp licenses applications. We are planning to open Camp Fun City and Stony Brook Acres on June 29th. Registration has already begun for these programs. The new guidelines will restrict the size of these camps. We will not be opening Camp Weber this year, due to the guidelines.

There are also operational changes that will impact camp as well, such as:

  • Camp group capacity now limited to 10.
  • No large group activities (lunch, opening and closing sessions, etc.)
  • Upgraded disinfecting procedures.

We are working to make the safest environment for you children and our staff.

Sincerely,
Dexter Johnson

Of course, this timeline Is fluid reopening will come with state guidance and restrictions that will Influence the way that we operate. We are looking forward to this guidance. We will do our best to serve you in the safest possible manner.
